In no way does this article imply the current Western-led world order is perfect or infallible.
What I will defend is this; that the World Order created by the west HAS:
- Ensured human right/universal human rights/natural rights
- Promoted and protected civil liberties and social freedom
- Provided the opportunity to decent work, the ability to feed oneself and family, pursue a common education, and receive medical care
- Purchase cheap and effective goods, appliances, and technologies
In no way will I ever say the Western Order, led by the US is perfect. But it is the best political, economic, and social culture ever created.
I'd also add that the "privileged" position is not out of sheer greed or selfishness. The Liberal Order, in order to succeeds, necessitates the expansion of these concept elsewhere. In many places who are not "privileged," there was likely some attempt to embrace these concept that was undermined by poor leadership and governments. In other words, not all your problems are because the US has had some mistakes.
So when states like Russia and China - whose domestic governance could be scrutinized - want to erase this progress, its a concern for me.
