The article's intent - which I thought was pretty clear - was to point out that Russia's invasion of Ukraine made many across Europe hyper-aware of Russia's controversial and sometimes brutal past across Eastern Europe. The invasion was more than a military failure, but a generational foreign policy failure for Russia as it has enflamed broad Russophobia.
